CMH-1509 [Tex Ritter And Johnny Bond:] Git Off My Horse / [Johnny Bond And The Willis Bros.]: One Mo77re Ride -

Notes by Ed Tabor*1) There were 2 versions of this recording. Version A Tex mentions deceased performers Will Rogers, Carson Robison, Jimmie Rodgers, Wiley Post, Hank Williams and Johnny Horton. Version B Tex mentions deceased performers Will Rogers, Hank Williams, Johnny Horton, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Jack Anglin, Randy Hughes, Rod Brasfield, Cowboy Copas, Wiley Post, Patsy Kline, Karl Farr, Texas Ruby, Joe Carson, Delmore Brothers, Jim Reeves and Hank Morton. As Jim Reeves died on July 31 1964, Version B had to have been recorded after that date. The instrumental and choral parts remain the same in both versions as is the timing at 3 min 10 sec. (Hank Morton had worked with Tex Ritter on personal appearances) I just purchased on eBay an 8 inch 45 rpm acetate record of Hillbilly Heaven. One side is the normal version A. The reverse is Version A but modified with the names of 8 disc jockeys at Los Angeles radio station KFWB. The names are: Bill Ballance, Gene Weed, Ted Quillin, Elliott Field, B. Mitchel Reed, Earl McDaniel, Joe Yokum and Joe Smith. I believe that other recordings like this were made for other radio stations.
*2)
Shasta items - This info is from a letter to me from Johnny Bond dated April 30, 1975. Will Voller was the producer of some armed forces radio transcriptions. These selections were made sometime in 1964. Johnny Bond on guitar, Carl Cotner on fiddle, Joe Maphis on guitar, Paul Sells on accordion, and Bert Dodson on bass. Will Voller died in early 1975. Jimmy Wakely's daughter Linda, visited Mrs. Voller and saved from destruction two tapes: one by Rex Allen and one by Tex Ritter. The Tex Ritter tape was an original session tape with bad takes and swear words from the performers. Jimmy Wakely edited the songs to make them useable and overdubbed them with an electronic keyboard. The original songs were mono but the keyboard was stereo so the resulting LP was described as stereo. I don't know how the Varese CD came about. The Varese CD added Cimarron from this same session. This is an instrumental. There are 4 other intrumentals from this session that remain unissued.
